Reason magazine has an interesting article on the social science, guns, and guns control. The article does a great job of discussing the problems of studying guns and some of the statistical trickery that happens. I know of a few studies that show that academics, especially sociologists/criminologists, strongly support gun control--if not confiscation. In one study of sociologists, for example, there was almost no variation and in the data I just collected from criminologists, there is almost no variation.
